About the practice

The practice was formed in 1992, when Victoria Scarratt and Gordon Martyn joined the long-established office of sole practitioner Anne Scarratt.

Based initially in the South Hams of Devon, before relocating to the Tavistock area, Scarratt and Martyn has built upon Anne’s reputation for quality design work and professionalism.

The partners continue to promote imaginative design solutions, personally tailored to meet each client’s needs. Our clients find us friendly and approachable, and enjoy the reassurance of knowing their project is safe in the hands of experienced chartered architects.

  • Making beautiful buildings for better lives

Scarratt and Martyn are acclaimed Chartered Architects who create beautiful spaces in which to work and live.

For more than 25 years the practice has been recognised as much for a friendly yet professional collaborative approach and exacting attention to detail, as a reputation for bold, dynamic design ideas and intelligent solutions for even the most challenging sites.

As you would expect of a company with such a distinguished history, we are registered with the ARB and hold Chartered Practice accreditation from the RIBA. This recognition provides our clients with the reassurance of consistent standards, superior project and management skills, all backed by proper insurance protection.

Every Scarratt and Martyn building is characterised by an instinctive eye for proportion and composition, careful choice of materials, colours and finishes, and the inspirational use of light and volume, all of which comes together to infuse every one of our projects with a sense of timeless quality and effortless elegance.

Combined, this means that even the most contemporary designs become classics that stand the test of time and ensures that more traditional projects meet the rigorous demands of 21st Century living, making Scarratt and Martyn architecture a great investment in your future – both personally and financially.

Meet the Partners

Generally, each project will be allocated to one or other of the partners at the outset, and then seen through to completion by them.

Working together as a husband and wife team, we are constantly bouncing ideas off each other; sharing skills and experience to give our clients the best possible service.

Most importantly of all we love doing our job!

    Victoria Scarratt BA(Hons), DipArch, RIBA

Victoria is the third generation in a family of architects, following in the footsteps of her grandfather and her mother, Anne, from whose practice Scarratt and Martyn evolved.

She trained at Plymouth School of Architecture, where both her final year thesis and dissertation received the prestigious RIBA Silver Medal nomination.

Victoria has a particular interest in historic buildings and a flair for extracting that all important bit of extra space from the tightest floor plan.

In her spare time Victoria is a keen rider and an accomplished clarinettist, who is happy to dabble in the garden and take the dogs for long walks – whatever the weather.
