Something a bit different. Our clients had purchased an uninspiring bungalow with an integral garage below, and asked us to create an imposing, traditional-looking house for this spectacular plot on the edge of Dartmoor.
Working closely with the planners at the National Park, we managed to manipulate the site levels and introduce traditional, steeply sloping roofs without the need to build any higher than the original ridge-line of the bungalow. In fact, a significant proportion of the old building remains hidden behind elevations and massing inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement and local, vernacular architecture.
