Feasibility proposals for an interpretation centre on the beach at Slapton Sands, commissioned by South Hams District Council and the Coast and Countryside Service.
This building was designed to shelter in the undulating contours of the beach, and incorporated shutters and embankments to protect it from the extreme weather conditions found in this environment. Constructed from materials salvaged from the coastline, including external walls made from driftwood and a curving roof finished with beach shingle, the plan form was analogous to a crustacean washed ashore on the tideline.
