The extension and refurbishment of a nineteenth century miller's house in a rural hamlet in North Devon.
A simple extension provided a large kitchen-dining space that served to connect the existing house with its garden and the original mill leat.
The limited height of the existing first floor window sills meant that a lean-to roof was impractical. Instead, a slated duo-pitch roof was introduced to create a lofty space, top lit with patent-glazed rooflights. Generously proportioned glazed oak doors wrapped around the corner of the extension to provide an attractive outlook over the surrounding landscape.
